English Dos Hermanas is a small independent academy which opened in 2004. We are members of ACEIA and FECEI. There are 3 teachers in the academy; all classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with whiteboards, projectors, computers and internet together with a range of games, toys and dressing-up clothes for the younger children. The groups are small, with a maximum of 10 students or 8 for the youngest learners. Students come to classes twice a week for hour-long classes; the youngest age we teach is 4 years, but most of our students are 6 – 16 years old and there are some adult classes too. English Dos Hermanas is a Preparation Centre for Cambridge ESOL Exams – we offer YLE, KET, PET, First and Advanced. All levels have course books though teachers have the freedom to teach the material in the way the see best.
The academy is 3 minutes from the train station in Dos Hermanas, which has a regular service from Seville (San Bernardo and Santa Justa). The train journey takes 13 minutes from Seville.
Teachers work 20-22 contact hours, from Monday to Thursday between the hours of 16.15 and 22.00. There is a 2 day induction at the beginning of each academic year and various training sessions throughout the year with guest speakers. Constant teacher support is available and extra support is given to weak students by the Director of Studies. We attend the annual ACEIA conference and many training sessions offered by the book publishers and other sources. We have meetings once a month on Friday mornings, and parents’ night once a term on a Friday evening. Teachers are expected to go into class well-prepared and able to attend to individual needs as well as direct group dynamics. With children’s classes the aim is always to achieve a balance of fun activities with a language learning basis and quiet time when consolidation can take place and teachers can attend to the individual needs of the students. With older classes the teacher becomes more of a manager, setting up activities and letting the students do the work. A good rapport with the students is essential to maximise the learning process.
A CELTA or Trinity Certificate is required and at least one year’s teaching experience with young children, preferably in an academy.
Teachers must be native English speakers or have level C2 in English and be either an EU national or have a work permit.
A University degree and level B1 Spanish are preferred.
For 2017 – 2018 we have vacancies for 2 full-time teachers (20-22 contact hours). The pay rate is €1200 gross for 21 hours. There are 2 weeks’ holiday at Christmas, one at Easter plus national and local holidays. Classes start on 11 September.
