Tarragona, (population 120,000) is situated on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, about 100 kilometres south of Barcelona, in the heart of Catalonia.

It is a bustling tourist centre with its Roman sites and with beautiful beaches and mountains nearby.

It is a provincial capital which relies principally on tourism, agriculture and the nearby petro-chemical industries.

The city also has a thriving university. The local population speaks both Spanish and Catalan.
