Tick It English is looking for a dynamic teacher to form part of a friendly enthusiastic team to teach very young learners. Storytelling, puppets, songs, and games are a core element to all our kids’ classes and we adopt a communicative approach to all our classes.

Tick It English is a small, professional language school situated in a mountainous region of the North West of Spain, near Galicia and Asturias. We have been teaching in the local area since 2001 and have grown with our reputation. We specialise in teaching very young learners from 3 years old, young learners from 8 years old and teenagers.

We are looking for an EFL teacher to work in a well-established language school with more than 500 students where our emphasis is on a communicative approach to language learning. We need a teacher who loves teaching children, who is prepared to sing songs, play games, do art and craft activities and tell stories. For our young learner classes we don’t use coursebooks but use storytelling instead as the core element of our syllabus. Are you a teacher who has experience teaching young children and can relate to them well?

We teach children and teenagers up to university leaving age and we prepare students for the Cambridge exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers, KET PET, FCE, CAE, and CPE. We are an official Cambridge Exam Preparation Centre.

Qualifications

Teaching experience and a desire to work with children is the main requirement for the job. We are looking for a teacher with as much classroom experience as possible.  We employ teachers from the EU and are happy to consider all nationals who wish to work in our amazing school.  C1 level of English is a minimum requirement.  The right personality for teaching Very Young Learners is the most important qualification as we are looking for someone who loves teaching children.  We would like to work with an energetic teacher who loves singing and dancing with the kids, someone who loves doing art and craft activities and telling stories, using puppets, toys, magic and wonder to engage the children in English language activities.  We use phonics stories, board games and other picture books in order to introduce language in class instead of EFL coursebooks.

Conditions

You will be required to teach Very Young Learners Monday to Friday afternoons in our purpose-built language academy in the centre of town, with morning classes teaching toddlers Monday to Thursday in a nursery school, nearby.  We need a Very Young Learner teacher to start early 2025 with the opportunity to work with us for years to come.  Our current teachers have been with us for three, five and twelve years and we are a small team who work well together.

The full-time 34 hours-a-week contract consists of 22 classroom contact hours and 12 hours of planning, administration and meetings.

Salary & Benefits

Our contract runs until 13th June 2025 with the option to renew.

We pay 1500 €uros per calendar month based on a full-time contract, which increases with experience.  Holiday entitlement is calculated at a rate of 2.5 days per calendar month, which is paid at the end of the contract.  In addition, teachers are entitled to a two-and-a-half week break at Christmas and a 10-day break at Easter as well as all the local and national public holidays.

Help is provided with finding accommodation.

The school covers the costs for new teachers to attend both in-person and online training sessions.  The school also covers the cost of sending all teachers to teacher training events run by our local association (ACLID), our national federation (FECEI) and the TESOL Spain convention.  Our Director is a qualified teacher trainer and Cambridge examiner and runs tailored teacher training programmes, including Peer Observation Schemes and the occasional workshop.  Meetings are arranged on an individual basis.  We have also brought teacher trainers to Ponferrada for exclusive training for our teachers. Our own internal online Teachers’ Handbook includes an extensive section on webinars and online training courses which are all available for teachers to do.
