The English Language Academy (ELA) is located in the picturesque town of Úbeda and was originally established in 1989. It is a member of the Language Teaching Centres Association in Andalusia (ACEIA), the Spanish Federation of Language Teaching Centres (FECEI) and is a Cambridge ESOL Exam Preparation Centre.

The school has 9 classrooms, a well-stocked staff resource room and a fully-equipped staff kitchen. There is internet access available throughout the school and all classrooms have a laptop, interactive whiteboard and sound system.

Classes are taught from 3.30pm to 9.30pm Monday to Thursday. Students from the age of 3 years-old to adults attend classes for 2 or 3 hours per week depending on age and level. Infant classes have a maximum of 10 students and all other classes have no more than 12 students. The school is dedicated to a communicative approach to language teaching and prepares students for the full range of Cambridge English examinations (YLE, KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE).

We have a small, friendly team of teachers, some who have joined in the last couple of years and others who have been with us for over 10 years. A typical teaching timetable consists of 22 contact hours and 12 paid preparation hours per week as well as a weekly ½ hour staff meeting and a monthly academic meeting with the director of studies. Staff are encouraged to develop professionally and are offered subsidies for some recognised courses such as DELTA and Young Learners specialist training. All teachers are encouraged to attend at least 1 teaching conference per academic year (ACEIA conference in November and either the FECEI conference in February or the TESOL Spain conference in March).
